Russian min says to stimulate retailers to abandon plastic bags
GURZUF, Crimea, Jun 6 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has no plans to prohibit the use of plastic and polyethylene packaging but it sees it necessary to stimulate a transition to safer types of packaging, Minister Sergei Donskoi told reporters on June 4.
“I do not mean a total prohibition on the use of polyethylene bags and plastic packaging but we can stimulate retail chains to use paper bags and we will make this via recycling charges,” Donskoi said.
Donskoi also said that Russia lacks utilities to recycle post-consumer plastic waste, and municipalities are responsible for stimulation of more environment-friendly packaging use.
